Alabama Fair Housing Laws
The the State of Alabama it is unlawful for a landlord to commit any of the following acts upon the tenant:
-To refuse to sell or rent or refuse to negotiate to any potential tenant because of race, color religion sex, familial status, or national origin.
-To refuse to sell or rent after the making of a bona fide offer, to refuse to negotiate for the sale or rental of, or otherwise to make unavailable or deny a dwelling to any tenant because of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, or national origin.
-To discriminate against any tenant in the terms & conditions of sale or rental of a dwelling because of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, or national origin.
-To make, print or publish any notice, statement, or advertisement with respect to the sale or rental of a dwelling that indicates any preference, limitation, or discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin or an intention to make the preference, limitation, or discrimination.
-To represent that any dwelling is not available because of the tenant’s race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin.
-To discriminate in the sale or rental of a dwelling to any buyer or tenant because of a handicap of:
- -That buyer or tenant
- -A person intending to reside in that dwelling after it is sold, rented
- -Any person associated with that buyer or renter
-To discriminate against a person in the terms and conditions of sale or rental of a dwelling because of a handicap of:
a. That tenant
b. A person intending to reside in that dwelling after it is sold or rent
c. Any person associated with that buyer or tenant
